Divisions
NEWCOMER
First time competitors and those with no prior points may dance in Newcomer even if they have entered a Novice contest elsewhere. To enter this division, newcomer competitors must be competent with the basics of social dancing. They may continue to dance in newcomer until they have earned points.
NOVICE
Competitors with some prior competition success may participate in this division. You may or may not have previously competed in the Newcomer division. A competitor must stay in Novice until they have earned at least 15 points in Novice. Competitors who have 15 or more Novice points will not be able to participate in the Novice division.
INTERMEDIATE
For competitors with at least 15 WSDC Novice points. A competitor must stay in Intermediate until they have earned at least 30 Intermediate points. Competitors who have 30 or more Intermediate points will not be able to participate in the Intermediate division.
ADVANCED / OPEN
You must have at least 30 Intermediate points in order to move into Advanced.

Petition forms will be available at the Competition Registration desk during the event.
Remember that all petitions do not carry over across events, and a new petition must be made if one has been made previously at another event. Competitors may only petition one level up or down only, or to stay in his/her current division. If the Competitor does not compete in the approved division, the points will not be recorded. Sample valid reasons for petitioning may be found in the WSDC Points Registry Document.
